Artist StatementAs a choreographer I’m largely interested in how complex and intertwining relationships can be refracted through a lens of movement and music. My work pushes and expands ballet vocabulary utilizing extreme torso movement and intricate rhythms. The narrative source material leads my choreography, and the music elevates it for a unique work that can lend itself to different interpretations. I'm largely interested in collaborating with other art forms including music and visual arts. I aim to work with live music by living composers, or composers who never gained notability in their lifetime.
Amanda Treiber’s choreographic debut “Wind-Up” premiered in NYTB’s Lift Lab Live in April 2021, and received critical acclaim. Her newest ballet "Sideslip" was reviewed as "an unforgettable experience, one that left a lasting impression on the audience," which presented at the 10th anniversary performance of CounterPointe. She was awarded a City Artist Corp grant in 2021 giving opportunity to create "Mesmers" and establish a relationship with composer Phyllis Chen. In 2022, she attended a residency at Sky Hill Farm Studio to begin the creation of "A Woman's Reason" with a newly commissioned score by Lauren Vandervelden. Amanda is a current collaborator with the Little Orchestra Society.
