Mónica Lima

Originally from Portugal, Mónica Lima is a freelance dancer and teacher based in Berlin. She trained at the National Ballet School of Portugal, graduating with honors, and continued her development through summer intensives at renowned institutions such as the École Supérieure de Danse de Cannes Rosella Hightower and the Escuela de Artes Escénicas Víctor Ullate. She received a joint grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Luso-American Development Foundation to study at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York, later joining the Joffrey Concert Group, where she performed works by George Balanchine, Gerald Arpino, and others.

From 2016 to 2024, Mónica was a company dancer with New York Theatre Ballet, performing masterworks by Antony Tudor, Jerome Robbins, Merce Cunningham, and José Limón, as well as new works by Richard Alston and Pam Tanowitz. She has danced at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, the Lensic Performing Arts Center, and Tanglewood.

In December 2024, Mónica was invited by Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, to perform at the EuroAméricas Fórum in Lisbon, an event bringing together global leaders in politics, culture, and academia.

As a teacher, Mónica has taught at the New York Theatre Ballet School and has led masterclasses and workshops across Portugal.
